Ambassador: Belarus-China trade is on the rise

MINSK, 28 July (BelTA) – Chair of the Council of the Republic of the National Assembly Natalya Kochanova held a working meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the People’s Republic of China Yuri Senko, BelTA learned from the press service of the upper house of parliament.
Following the meeting with Natalya Kochanova, the ambassador told journalists about the state and prospects of Belarus-China cooperation.
“The Republic of Belarus and the People’s Republic of China have established very cordial and good partner relations. Last September, in Samarkand, Belarusian President Aleksandr Lukashenko and President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping took a decision to upgrade bilateral relations to the level of a comprehensive and all-weather strategic partnership. This gave a fresh impetus to cooperation in economy, interparliamentary contacts and relations in many other areas,” he said.
The two leaders’ decision to promote regional cooperation has proved to be very important, the ambassador noted. “The regions of the Republic of Belarus and the provinces of the People’s Republic of China continue to sign bilateral agreements on partnership, twinning relations. To flesh out such agreements, they sign bilateral cooperation programs in all kinds of areas, including sports, tourism, economy, education, healthcare and others. These efforts are bearing fruit. Even during the pandemic, bilateral trade kept growing. In 2022, the export of Belarusian products to China rose by $700 million over 2021. This is a good result. The upward trend continues throughout the year 2023,” the diplomat said.
“The two countries closely cooperate in healthcare, sports, culture, agriculture, and manufacturing. A number of projects are in progress now. They are expected to yield good results in the very near future,” Yuri Senko added.
